Overview
Kerrville State Hospital is accepting submissions for the following positions at our facility for the maximum security unit: 14 License Vocational Nurses Shifts available are as follows: 6:30a-3p, 2:30p-11p, and 10:30p-7a Duties of Agency Licensed Vocational Nurse Performs advanced vocational nursing work. Provides for the care, treatment, and general welfare of individuals residing at Kerrville State Hospital who have complex medical, mental health and/or behavioral health issues. Performs basic and advanced routine and non-routine nursing tasks to promote the health of the individuals within the assigned areas and assigned shift. Administers medication to patients. Collects specimens for lab work and performs health screenings. Instructs direct support professionals and other staff on how to provide service and care that support the individual’s medical needs. Performs technical nursing procedures according to facility and state regulations. Keeps informed of and follows all agency and Kerrville State Hospital policies and procedures. Provides direction and assists with on-the-job training to others such as newly hired LVNs and direct care staff. Provides on-the-job nursing instruction and training for new LVNs, within their scope of practice, as requested by RN Supervisor. Evaluates nursing intervention outcomes and provides input to other members of the healthcare team. Assists RNs with implementation of protocols, procedures and programs to improve overall health and safety of staff and individuals. Works under the limited supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Job Requirements for all candidates: - Must be licensed LVN and able to practice in Texas - Preferably 1+ years as a direct care nurse - 1+ years of psychiatric nursing experience preferred Other: - Regular rates apply for all positions - Any requested time off in excess of three days needed before Jan 5, 2023 must be discussed at time of interview - Must have valid photo ID and current American Heart Association CPR certification - Must have a valid license in Texas or a compact state. - Must have negative PPD results within last 12 months - COVID-19 testing with negative result required (we provide) - COVID-19 Vaccination card if applicable - Must be able to successfully pass a urine drug screen and background check (Relode provides) - Must be able to successfully pass an FBI fingerprint background check (Facility provide) Training will consist of four weeks of training from 8 am to 5 pm, Mon-Fri.
Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher
- Valid Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in Texas (TX)
- Do you have 1+ years experience as a direct care nurse?
- Do you have 1+ years of psychiatric nursing experience?
