Overview
We are looking for an experienced physician to join the team in Rusk, TX! The Physician will be working in a correctional setting. JOB SUMMARY: Provides professional services related to diagnosis and treatment of inmate patients and of employees injured as a result of TDCJ-ID work related activities. Ensures that appropriate health care in accessible and provided to the inmate population in a timely fashion. Renders final medical judgement regarding care provided to inmates assigned to the unit according to Health Services Policies and Procedures. Directs all Health Services activities on the unit and assumes ultimate responsibility for all Health Services employees assigned to the unit. Works under the general direction of the Regional Physician with extensive latitude for the exercise of initiative and independent judgement. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: - Performs complete medical histories and physician examinations; forms clinical impressions based upon findings; orders diagnostic tests, interprets results of laboratory tests and radiological examinations, prescribes medications, and renders treatments appropriate to clinical impressions. - Inspects, completes, and analyzes medical records; assigns, reviews, and updates medical classifications; completes admission notes, progress notes, and discharge summaries and makes rounds on patients admitted to infirmaries or regional medical facilities. - Refers patients to specialists for consultations, evaluations, and treatments. - Serves in rotation with other physicians to provide after-hours and weekend patient care. - Directly supervises all physicians and mid level practitioners. - Oversees and manages all operations of the unit's medical department, ensuring compliance with all applicable standards, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and court orders. - Adheres to internal controls established for department. - Performs related duties as required. EQUIPMENT: - Standard clinical environment. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Located within the confines of a prison. Security clearance is required; pre-employment drug testing is also required. Required Skills and Experience: 1. Current license to practice medicine by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners 2. Current Drug Enforcement Agency and Texas Department of Public Safety controlled substances registration certificates 3. BC or BE - MD/DO What You Need to Know: - Clearance Process will be required (1-2 week clearance/credentialing process) - This role is in a correctional setting - Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8-5. - A 4-day, 10 hour shift schedule can also be made available (M-TH OR TU-F)
