Description: Job Specific Duties: The type of work may include, but is not limited to, the following: Perform duties within the scope of practice determined by didactic, laboratory, and clinical technological education and registration. Review and/or record pertinent patient history and supporting clinical data. Perform appropriate clinical procedures and obtain a record of anatomical, pathological, and/or physiological data for interpretation by a physician. Exercise discretion and judgment in the performance of cardiovascular diagnostic and therapeutic services. Participate in interventional cardiovascular catheterization and/or cardiac electrophysiology procedures, including balloon angioplasty, stent insertion, radiofrequency ablation, and pacemaker and/or implantable defibrillator insertion. Perform a full range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations. Operate equipment identified in the TO. Perform daily warm up and assigned quality control checks of the equipment Receive patients and explain procedures, providing humane and appropriate care and communication to alleviate fear of examination. Correctly position the patient for the examination and make adjustments necessary for the required examination. Input key test data and patient information into computer of equipment to maintain record of test results. Identify abnormalities during testing and determine the need for additional scans of affected area. Recognize anatomic variants and determine which other area(s) of the body should be scanned. Maintain and clean equipment on a regular basis in accordance with MTF policy. Stock and maintain an adequate level of supplies required for diagnostic procedures. Recommend necessary repairs when diagnostic quality is degraded. The technician shall be required to perform Peripheral Vascular Angiography/Endovascular Intervention and Cardiac Catheterization services including the following:  CVOR: Provide clinical assistance in the CVOR and Cardiovascular Catheterization Lab for vascular and endovascular surgery. Work in the CVOR will also include set-up and assistance for coronary angiography.  Set up room and sterile tables for peripheral vascular, coronary and cardiac diagnostic and interventional procedures.  Assist the surgeon, cardiologist, or interventionalist as required during procedures.  Assist in the post-processing, storage, archival and completion formalization of diagnostic and intervention images of the performed procedures.  Ensure/assist proper radiation safety practices during procedures with As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) protective measures and shielding. Ensures proper documentation and radiation dose, DAP and regulatory requirements.  Maintain peripheral endovascular supplies/inventory in the CVOR and cardiovascular catheterization laboratory. To include ensuring proper inventory of all disposables such as catheters, wires, balloons, stents, embolics, and endovascular grafts. This may require interacting with institution Medical Material, Resources Management, and corporate representatives. Further, proper maintenance, preventive measures and cleaning of related hard equipment such as IVUS, mechanical thrombectomy, and atherectomy devices is required.  Assist with ordering and maintaining supplies for the endovascular operating room and cardiovascular catheterization laboratory.  Ensure all equipment is properly cleaned and stored at the end of each work shift.  Ensure proper preventive maintenance, routine cleaning, and radiation safety testing/quality control practices are performed as directed for fixed imaging system in the CVOR. Assist with these measures for the fixed imaging within the cardiovascular catheterization laboratory.  Ensure a safe work environment and employee safe work habits.  Provide assistance in other cardiopulmonary service areas, specifically in the CVOR and the Cardiovascular Catheterization Laboratory, at the discretion of the Chief of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery.  Educate and train new technicians. In particular, to train, educate and inform all technicians identified in the peripheral intervention inventory, practice, and function and upkeep of the CVOR fixed imaging. Also, participate in this for the CCL practice component.  Technician will be a scrubbed member of team responsible for control, operation, and troubleshooting of Siemens Artis Zeego fluoroscopy within the CVOR suite.  The technician shall provide patients with the utmost care and attention. All patients shall be assured of their privacy and personal dignity.  The technician shall prepare all documentation to meet or exceed established standards of the MTF, to include, but not limited to, timeliness, accuracy, content and signature. Only MTF and Air Force-approved abbreviations shall be used for documentation of the patient health record.  Assist the physician during invasive and noninvasive procedures to treat cardiac and peripheral vascular disease and cardiac arrhythmias. Maintain high standards to achieve quality patient care. Communicates continuously with the physician about the patient’s condition. May perform any of the following: Basic diagnostic catheterization procedures on adult patients with known and suspected congenital and acquired cardiac and peripheral vascular disease. Basic interventional procedures which may include any of the following: PTCA, PCI, IABP placement and operation, IVUS/FFR procedures and operation, Impella Insertion and operation, Basic EP procedure may include any of the following: EP studies, implantation of pacemaker, ICD and BIV-ICD.  The technician will be a scrubbed team member responsible for control, operation and trouble-shooting the Philips Biplane X-ray/Digital Cardiac Imaging System.  Serves as CCL Circulating Technician during cases. Assist physician with the accomplishment appropriate patient/system checks throughout procedures.  Technician must operate, control, and monitor patient vital signs using the MACLAB hemodynamic monitoring system.  All other duties assigned by the Chief of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory within the Heart, Lung & Vascular Center. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: * Education: Completion of an accredited Registered Cardiovascular Technician Certification (RCVT, RCIS) program OR accredited Radiology Technologist program with a Certified Radiation Technologist (CRT) OR the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). * Experience: Minimum two years experience, with at least 12 months in the last 24 months, including experience performing or supervising functions such as producing radiographs, assisting with cardiovascular fluoroscopic imaging (either peripheral or cardiac), and specific radiographic procedures/interventions. * License/Certification: RCIS, RCVT, CRT, or ARRT * Life Support Certification: BLS and ACLS. * Security: Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
