The Orthopedics/Neurology/Surgical (ONS) Unit is a 56-bed unit providing care for a wide range of adult patients and some adolescents. Most patient rooms on ONS are private and have a ceiling lift system in place for patient transfers. The patient population includes those with bone injuries, elective joint replacements, and trauma patients with orthopedic and other injuries. ONS also cares for general surgical patients including abdominal surgery, lung surgery, ear/nose/throat surgery, weight control surgery, and genitourinary surgery. Patients who have had brain or spine surgery, stroke patients, head injury patients, seizure patients, and patients with other neurological diagnoses may also be cared for in the unit. You'll work a combination of 12-hour day and night shifts; initially you'll work 50% weekends and every other holiday, as is expected of all new employees.
