This opportunity combines hands-on patient care, physician leadership, and a more predictable outpatient practice environment—without hospital rounds, overnight call, or the demands of managing a traditional primary care panel. The Opportunity As Medical Director, you will serve as a key clinical leader for your assigned medical center and market. You will work closely with clinic staff, operational leadership, and other providers to help ensure high-quality patient care while supporting the clinical and business goals of the organization. You will remain actively involved in patient care while also having the opportunity to take on medical leadership responsibilities. Your Responsibilities May Include: Providing direct patient care for occupational injuries and illnesses Treating musculoskeletal injuries and acute conditions Performing and supervising common outpatient procedures Supporting clinical quality and best practices Providing medical leadership and guidance to clinical staff Working closely with operational and medical leadership Supporting return-to-work and functional recovery plans Performing occupational health, pre-employment, and regulatory examinations Reviewing diagnostic studies, including basic X-rays Helping ensure consistent clinical standards and patient care Why Consider a Medical Director Role? More Predictable Lifestyle Most centers operate during traditional weekday business hours. While flexibility is expected to ensure patients are appropriately cared for, this role can offer a significantly more predictable schedule than many hospital-based, emergency medicine, or traditional urgent care positions. Depending on the specific location, you may enjoy: Primarily Monday–Friday schedules No overnight call No hospital rounds No inpatient responsibilities Limited or no weekend requirements Continue Using Your Clinical Skills This is still a hands-on clinical role. Medical Directors regularly evaluate and treat patients and may perform procedures including: Suturing Splinting Foreign body removal Musculoskeletal injury treatment Occupational injury evaluations Return-to-work evaluations DOT and other occupational physicals Basic X-ray interpretation Become Part of a Growing Specialty Occupational medicine offers a unique combination of clinical medicine, injury management, preventive care, and employer-focused healthcare. Physicians with backgrounds in the following areas may be a strong fit: Family Medicine Emergency Medicine Occupational Medicine Urgent Care Sports Medicine Internal Medicine with appropriate clinical and procedural experience The ideal candidate is comfortable practicing independently, enjoys a fast-paced outpatient environment, and is interested in helping lead and support a clinical team. Important Qualifications Candidates should generally be: Board Certified or Board Eligible Eligible to participate in Medicare and Medicaid Able to maintain an unrestricted medical license and DEA as required for the practice location Comfortable treating patients ages 2 and older Comfortable performing common outpatient procedures Willing to obtain DOT certification if not already certified Comfortable with occupational injuries and musculoskeletal medicine Flexible enough to ensure patients are appropriately cared for through the end of the clinic day The Right Fit This is an excellent opportunity for a physician who wants to move beyond a purely clinical role and take the next step into medical leadership—without giving up patient care.
