IOWA - Medical Record Technician (Coder)

Overview

Required skills and experience: Minimum 6 years of medical coding experience Current, applicable medical coding certification Strong knowledge of ICD, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding Experience reviewing electronic health records and assigning accurate codes based on clinical documentation Experience with outpatient, ambulatory surgery, and/or inpatient coding, depending on the position Experience coding ancillary services, prosthetics, professional services, and non-VA care is preferred where applicable Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to work independently in a remote environment What you need to know: This is a remote position, but candidates must reside within 50 miles of the VA facility. There are 4.0 FTE openings: 3 outpatient coders supporting outpatient encounters, ancillary services, prosthetics, and ambulatory surgery. 1 inpatient coder supporting inpatient Patient Treatment File (PTF), inpatient appointments, professional fees, and VA/non-VA coding. Candidates must be able to provide documentation of their experience, certification, and education, along with the other required submission documents. Interview process: Qualified candidates will first be reviewed to ensure they meet the experience, certification, and documentation requirements. Candidates selected for consideration will participate in the client's interview and selection process. Coders will assign appropriate ICD, CPT, and HCPCS Level II codes based on documentation within the electronic health record. The work may also include coding of inpatient professional services, non-VA care provided under VA auspices, and limited coding audits or validation reviews as requested. Important: Although the work is remote, candidates must live within 50 miles of the VA facility.
