BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. RNs hired after January 2017 require completion of BSN within 2 years of start date. RNs hired Associate's Degree in Nursing is minimum. Required minimum experience: 1.5 years experience in Labor & Delivery Required license/certification: Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire; Current AHA BLS/CPR certification upon hire. Credentials specific to specialty as defined - - ACLS and NRP certifications within 6 months of hire if not current. - Obtain Fetal monitoring (EFM) certification Required skills (if applicable): A high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility with schedule. Critical thinking skills. May be required to float to Labor & Delivery, Antepartum & OB/ED departments. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. (Must obtain BSN within 2 years of hire) Prefer 2 or more years recent Labor & Delivery RN experience Experience with High Risk OB patients is very helpful Charge RN experience is preferred Intermediate AWHONN Fetal monitoring (EFM) within 12 months of hire is preferred * Ability to triage, labor, deliver, circulate and recover patients RESPONSIBILITIES: Promotes a positive image of Texas Health nursing. Takes responsibility for the quality and accountability of one's professional role. Serves as a clinical role model to nursing staff and healthcare team members. Participates in a healthy dialogue with physicians to promote safe, individualized patient care practices. Recognizes and communicates ethical and legal concerns through established channels of communication Takes responsibility to manage time and resources. Recognizes need for cost-effectiveness in daily care activities Participates in process improvement activities Proactively takes steps to reduce or eliminate patient risks Serves as a patient advocate for quality care and patient satisfaction Works in partnerships with patients to achieve optimum health and well-being of Body Mind and Spirit. Coordinates and directs patient care activities by identifying and providing those activities which require the judgment and skill of a registered nurse Understands, promotes, and values evidence-based practices, quality improvement, and/or research, and utilizes them in practice. Follows guidelines and recommendations defined by regulatory or professional practice agencies . Provides daily care that achieves outcome targets for core measures, NPSG, employee satisfaction, patient satisfaction, NDNQI and other unit/organizational metrics Maintains annual competencies Attends in-services and training useful to area of practice Shares with peers evidence based practice updates, policy changes, new technology and other pertinent information from conferences or meetings.
