Required skills & experience (the 7 “must haves” to be considered) 1. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Massachusetts. 2. Baccalaureate degree in nursing required. -- Masters prepared preferred. 3. A minimum of five years knowledge and experience in perioperative nursing. 4. Two years of management experience. 4. Evidence of continuing education in OR nursing, management skills, and presence of mandatory education programs. 5. Experience should demonstrate a high level of written and oral communication skills; ability to conceptualize, develop and effect quality clinical surgical services, effective leadership/management skills and commitment to continuous quality improvement What you need to know: - Full-time position in Norwood, MA Job Summary: - Position reports to the Chief Administrative Nursing Officer. Their style is supportive but hands-off. Style is to support not micro-manage; - Total Surgical Cases avg. of 4,167 yearly. - OR Case Mix consists of General, Gynecological, Neuro (backs only), vascular, bariatric, ophthalmology (cataracts), podiatry and urology. On occasion plastic or oral/maxillofacial cases. While we do not do Cranis, hearts or transplants, we do harvesting. - Position oversees Operating Room, Pre-Admission Testing, Pain Clinic, Same Day Surgery, Holding Area, PACU, Endoscopy, OR Materials/Scheduling, and Sterile Processing. Leadership Team includes, Nursing Manager for PACU and Endoscopy, Manager for Sterile Processing/Business Office, OR Nurse Educator, and a Manager of OR Business Office. - Staff RNs 55.75 (35.75) FTEs; Surgical Technicians 12 (7.9 FTEs); Clinical Leaders 5 (4.75 FTEs); Total staff size for all areas of oversight is approximately 107. - Objectives Assignment – keep surgeons and staff accountable for recent changes implemented to improve quality metrics, turnaround times of rooms, and block time utilization. Hiring and performance management/improvement of current staff and new hires as turnover occurs. New Ortho Program under development will require changes in preparation and as program is rolled out. Director of Surgical Services will plan a key role in program development/implementation. Director Surgical Services works closely with Chair of Surgery and Chair of Anesthesia with open lines of communication. Asks surgeons to participate in decisions that impact their practice. - System is very collaborative in terms of partnering without counterparts at other sister entities. - Strong Administration team and leadership support at the local entity level.
