MUST-HAVES/WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: • MSN or Master’s Degree in healthcare related field or education required • At least 5 years acute care experience • Prior teaching experience in pre-graduate or post graduate nursing required • Progressive leadership experience which may include experience as a charge nurse JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: • Effectively plans, organizes and evaluates educational programs and contents for all nursing staff to promote quality nursing and patient care activities. • Develops staff competency guidelines and ensures compliance in collaboration with the department managers. Interviews and selects staff for designated unit. • Maintains educator’s meeting at least bi-monthly to discuss specific needs of different department in regards to nursing education. • Provides an environment that promotes employee satisfaction and retention through educational programs. • Empowers staff to participate in changing process and incorporate changes into daily practices. • Completes employee performance appraisals according to Human Resources guidelines. • Develops and implements new nurse orientation and training program for designated departments. • Actively develops, implements and maintains PI and QI initiatives • Evaluates and sets standards for nursing education • Builds and leads a complex nursing education program: Motivates, inspires and develops employees to accomplish goals and objectives through effective educational program. POSITION SUMMARY: • The Manager of Education is a Registered Nurse responsible for planning, organizing, directing and evaluating all educational programs for nursing departments. • He/she has the authority and responsibility for development and administration of strategic of house-wide education plans and nursing education programs under the direction of the Director of Education and Professional Development. • This includes preparing and redesigning the process, structure and systems for the house-wide clinical and non-clinical education programs which includes clear timelines and budgeting. • Implements and interprets policies and procedures relating to nursing practice standards consistent with Evidence Based Practice (EBP). • He/she maintains twenty-four-hour accountability for all activities of the education department. • Applies ANA Standards of Nursing Administrative Practice in performance of leadership role and maintains files for regulatory compliance agencies such as TJC, OSHA, CDPH and ensures education files house-wide are in compliance with standards.
