Overview
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: • A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) (Required) • MSN (Master's of Science in Nursing) or an associated degree at the graduate level (Preferred/Highly Desired) REQUIRED LICENSURE(S)/CERTIFICATIONS: • Current California Registered Nursing License (Required) • Basic Life Support certification (Required) • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (Required/Must Obtain Within 6-Months) • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification (Required/Must Obtain Within 6-Months) • CNOR certification (Highly Desired) MUST-HAVES/WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: • Must have a minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience in specialty area. • Must be a member of at least one (1) Professional Nursing Organization. • Must have knowledge of regulatory requirements for departments to include Joint Commission JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/POSITION SUMMARY: • Under the general direction of the VP of Patient Care Services, the Director of Surgical Services is responsible for the overall operational and financial management of the departments. • The Director assumes 24-hour, seven day a week responsibility, authority, and accountability for ensuring that the department, and all individuals within the department, achieve and maintain the clinical expectations for the assessment, treatment, and care of patients and are competent to deliver care appropriate to all of the patients served • Candidate integrates their department’s services with the Hospital’s primary functions and overall plan for care delivery and other departments. • Candidate develops and reviews annually house-wide and unit specific policies and where appropriate coordinate policies with other primary functions and/or departments. • Candidate achieves and documents desired staffing to patient ratios within targeted goals. • Candidate determines the qualifications and competence of department personnel who provide patient care services and who are not licensed independent practitioners. • Candidate is involved directly and/or supports subordinate participation in the Employee Performance and Improvement process as measured by active participation in Quality Council activities annually, recommends capital equipment and physical space and resources appropriate to patient care needs and selects, orients, evaluates performance and competency of outside contractors and vendor services
