EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: • Candidate must have GED (High School Graduate) • College courses or matriculation into a healthcare related college program (Preferred) REQUIRED LICENSURE(S)/CERTIFICATIONS: • Must have and maintain current BLS certification • Surgical Technician Certificate (Required) MUST-HAVES/WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: • Surgical Technician Certificate (Required) • Current Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS) • Basic knowledge of obstetrical/medical terminology is desirable. • Knowledge of Aseptic technique is desirable. • Knowledge of surgical scrub procedures, use of sterile technique, instruments, and set-up procedures for the delivery/OR room is desirable. • Surgical Technician experience (Preferred) JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if required. • Ability to speak English, write legibly, and read, understand and follow directions. Have a basic understanding of Medical Terminology. • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages if required. • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. POSITION SUMMARY: • Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Obstetrical Technician assists in nursing care and preparation of the obstetrical patient through performance of routine and delegated duties according to the standards and policies of the hospital. • Performs scrub duties for scheduled, urgent and emergent C-Sections and associated OB/GYN surgeries and related procedures. • Provides non-clinical support by setting up and preparing rooms after use, discharge or transfer of the patient. • Performs clerical and communications duties required to support efficiency and flow on the nursing units
