Description You could play a key role supporting the Welcome Baby Program! General Summary: The Welcome Baby Program is a Partnership with Valley Presbyterian Hospital. Under the supervision of the Welcome Baby Program Supervisor and Clinical Manager, Parent Coaches will conduct the prenatal and postpartum visits in the home. Parent Coaches are responsible for supporting families, conducting assessments, providing parent education in the areas of prenatal and postnatal care, breastfeeding, parent-infant attachment, child development, home safety and other maternal and child health related topics. They will also help identify client strengths, needs, barriers and risks and provide community resources for those needs and provide and model empathetic support and feedback when working with new moms, babies and family members. The Welcome Baby Program uses a family-centered and strength-based model that values the participant as the authority on her/his own experience and as fully capable of fulfilling her/his own potential for growth. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Within a team environment, this position will perform the following responsibilities: - Plan, provide, and document visits and engagements in accordance with the Welcome Baby Program Model and the activities approved in the program contract. Administer client assessments using standardized tools for maternal depression, parent-infant attachment, social support, developmental milestones and home safety, as well as other non-standardized client assessments. Complete all needed paperwork and data entry for each client in a timely and organized manner, including clear and well written progress notes. 40% - Collect, enter, maintain, and report data accurately and on time. Complete required data entry for each client in a timely manner. 35% - Participate in bi-monthly group reflective supervision, weekly individual reflective supervision, and staff meetings. 15% - Attend mandatory funder, oversight entity, and agency required trainings. 5% Non-Essential Duties And Responsibilities These duties include tasks that are required and comprise less than 5% of daily functions for this job: - Complete Welcome Baby training required for Parent Coach within one year of hire. - Complete CLE training within six months of hire. - Organize and inventory supplies/materials, etc. - Obtain competency-based professional development as required by grant funding. - Participate in continuous quality improvements as needed. - Keep up to date with fetal and child development literature, research, and trends in the business and politics early care and education. - Prepare oral and written reports as needed. - Represent Us at Welcome Baby community events, in partnership with Valley Presbyterian Hospital, as needed. - Adhere to all program guidelines, policies and protocols and actively works towards achieving the goals of the program. - Assess infant feeding and provides assistance and support as needed. Job Specifications - Minimum Required: Education: Child Development Associate (CDA) or Associate in Arts degree. Experience: Maternal and child health experience and at least two years of experience in maternal and child home visitation. Professional/Technical Certifications: Certified lactation educator (CLE) or certified lactation counselor (CLC) at a minimum; or certification must be completed within six months of hire; alternately staff may be certified lactation consultant (CLC) or international board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC/RLC). Technical Requirements: Computer skills; including web browsing, e-mail, data entry, and word processing. Proficiency in Windows-based programs including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Bilingual Required: Ability to converse, write and/or translate in English and Spanish. Behavioral: - Ability to provide documentation/verification of education/coursework. - Ability to assess families across a broad spectrum of areas, recognizing professional boundaries and the need for consultation from other disciplines. - Ability to honor and establish rapport with socially, culturally, and ethnically diverse families while empowering them by building on their strengths. - Ability to honor confidentiality & familiarity with HIPAA compliance. - Ability to maintain cooperative, diplomatic working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the public; work as part of a team and collaborate with colleagues in a positive, productive, and professional manner. - Ability to work a non-traditional work schedule including evenings and weekends in a variety of settings that may include virtual visits, family homes, parks, and other locations in the community required. - Ability to work independently and be self-motivated (often in the community). - Accept full responsibility for self and contribution as a team member and present themselves as a credible representative of the agency. - Build internal and external customer confidents by providing consistent and high-quality customer service. - Complete annually required competency-based professional development hours in accordance with the Welcome Baby Program Model. - Consistently present a calm, competent and professional image to clients, co-workers, and management. - Effectively transfer thoughts and express ideas verbally and in writing to individuals and in a group setting. - Familiarity with the effects of domestic violence and parental alcohol and/or other drug abuse on family health, parenting, and general functioning. - Knowledge of fetal and human development and best practices in working with adults as well as knowledge of infant, toddler, and child development; prenatal and child health requirements; and early childhood education best practices. - Knowledgeable about local community resources, ability to refer families to appropriate agencies and follow up with all needed referrals and resources for clients. - Maintain a sense of purpose, value and ownership of work and anticipates and prepare for chosen courses of action. - Provide information to clients about maternal and infant health, breastfeeding, parenting, attachment, home safety, family planning, child development and other related topics using a client-centered approach. - Recognize and take independent action to solve problems. - Seek out new responsibilities, act on opportunities, generate new ideas, and practice self-development. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills (i.e., non-judgmental, objective, reflective, empathetic, patient, tactful, etc.) - Strong organizational and record keeping skills. - Understand one's job duties and responsibilities, keep job knowledge current, and utilize necessary skills to complete work assignments. - Works closely with the Welcome Baby Nurses, other Parent Coaches, Parent Coach Supervisors, Project Manager, and administrative staff to provide a continuum of services. Travel: Travel to and from home visits, some travel/business related driving required; automobile, current auto insurance, current California Driver's License and DMV clearance required. Work Schedule: Full time, typically M-F, ability to at times work a non-traditional work schedule including early mornings, late evenings and weekends. Work environment: Mixture of working in an office work environment and working directly with the community and in client homes. Willingness to work in a traditional setting (i.e. office, full-time remote setting, and/or hybrid schedule (office & remote work). Background & Health Clearance Requirements: Bridge & FWB Criminal Records (e.g. Livescan Fingerprinting), Child Abuse Index Check, Sexual Offender Registry, Health and Tuberculosis (TB) test clearances required. Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred in child development, social work, psychology, human development, public health education, social studies, anthropology, human services, women’s studies or a related field. Experience: - At least one year of experience in maternal and child home visitation. - Familiarity with trauma informed care and the effects of domestic violence, child abuse, parental alcohol and/or substance abuse, and perinatal depression on child development, parenting, family and general functioning or willingness to be trained preferred. - Infant massage educator knowledge and/or experience or willingness to be trained on the topic.
